Before becoming a professional wrestler, Ken Patera, was an exceptional weightlifter. After failing to make the 1968 Olympics in the Shot Put, where he had a Personal Best of 20.10m/66’, he turned his energy full time to Weightlifting. Patera was a Pan Am Champion in 1971, he also took Silver at the World Championships that year. He was the first American to Clean & Jerk 227kg/500# and only American ever to Clean & Press that weight. Patera reportedly Push Pressed 250kg/551# from the rack. Patera competed in the inaugural World’s Strongest Man in 1977 where he placed 3rd.
