Banned Because Of His Race Then Became World Champion

Precious McKenzie is a South African born Weightlifter and Powerlifter who had to overcome tremendous racial strife to compete and excel. He was barred from the 1958 Commonwealth Games and 1960 Olympics because of race. Told he could lift in 1964 Olympics if he stayed segregated from white teammates, he left South Africa for England where his citizenship was fast-tracked and he went on to win his first of four Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in 1966 and his final championship in 1978 at age 42.
